Plaid Fringe Scarf from Urban Outfitters for $24.This is a cool look. For the moment. I think $24 is a bit too much to pay for a bit of cloth; you could easily dig up some old plaid and toss it casually around your neck. I love the casual-coolness of the scarf, it's a great alternative to boring old winter wools and best of all, light enough that you could wear it even through Spring.
Best paired with something light and basic.. too many clashing patterns will just be an eye sore! Also, avoid anything vaguely cowboy-ish... no boots, hats, leather, etc.! You don't want to look like you just walked off a farm..
